Stage 2 is a nine time EMMY award winning video production company with operations in Alaska, Denver and Seattle. The company specializes in high concept, dynamic short form documentary and commercial work for nonprofit, commercial and governmental agencies. Stage 2 excels in small crew, guerilla style filmmaking with world class results and has worked with some of the largest brands in the world including ConocoPhillips, Alaska Tourism, United Way, the Wild Animal Sanctuary and ASRC. Stage 2 utilizes high-quality, state of the art equipment and is currently equipped with (3) RED digital cinema camera systems, multiple gimbals, FAA Certified drone operations and all related support equipment as well as a fully equipped 5K+ post production studio. With over 20 years of production the company has development a reputation for high concept media with an attention to detail and incredible customer service often in some of the most remote and challenging climates. Most of the work will be accomplished in the Denver metro region with our main production office and editing suites located in Centennial, CO as well as a lot of productions in our home state of Alaska. The candidate will need reliable transportation and a clean driving record. As Stage 2 operates in multiple states the candidate may need to travel within the US (primarily to Alaska) and possibly internationally for productions so a passport may be required. We do not plan on having applicants relocate to Aurora / Centennial so please be within acceptable daily driving distance of zip code 80015. The primary focus of the new employee’s role will be general assistance in all aspects of production in both team and solo environments. We’re seeking candidates who have actual experience with the entire process of media creation from planning to delivery, is hard working and trustworthy even when working without oversight. This person will need to be comfortable with assisting the company’s producer, John Conn, in any capacity on-set or in the office. Additionally they will be working solo on entire projects on their own and capable of producing high quality, professional results in timely and efficient manner and be comfortable with re-edit requests and changes by both Stage 2 and the client. The candidate will need to be comfortable working with on screen talent and be able to interview or direct on-screen talent and know how to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining industry standard on-set safety standards. Roles and Tasks Overview: The following is a description of the experience and typical tasks handled by the ideal candidate for this position. While significant on the job training is anticipated to bring them up to speed we’re hoping to incorporate a person with strong experience and knowledge base with many of these skillsets and task abilities already in place. General Assistance / Office Requires good understanding of Windows based PC's, Word, Excel, Google Docs, Dropbox and basic media management practices with a good attention to detail, communication and problem solving skills. Comfortable and reliable handling offload and back up of footage. Typical tasks include the following: Basic Project Management / customer relations / written and verbal client communication Assist with in-office tasks as needed Assist / Sort and manage online digital assets (Music / stock video / motion graphics elements) as needed Assist with data archive / long term storage (LTO-8) and logging Assist as needed with the company’s potential client outreach and business development efforts Maintain, organize, repair as needed and prepare equipment for shoots Research and make recommendations as needed for new / replacement / rented equipment as needed Basic scriptwriting, concept design and story development as needed Review of Stage 2 concept design elements and collaborate as needed Respond to clients / contacts on behalf of John Conn, set and coordinate meetings Maintain confidentiality of proprietary client and Stage 2 information Willing and able to sign noncompete and nondisclosure agreement Adhere Stage 2 social media policy in office and on shoots (ie. many of our clients do not allow any social media posts etc on shoots) Production: Requires good working knowledge and experience if possible with cinema cameras (RED Cinema systems experience a plus) as well as DSLR and other video cameras, basic 3 point lighting, guerilla style shoot, grip and lighting, set management, tripod / slider, gimbal setup, wireless and wired audio, wireless video transmission, cords and cables and talent direction and a good eye for shooting for cadence, impact and dynamic imagery even in adverse lighting or conditions. Able to work on a shoot for longer than typical days with high energy level as needed. Positive attitude and great energy on set. Typical tasks include the following: Transport and carry equipment (through airports, up mountain sides, into tiger habitats… you get the idea) RED Camera set up / take down / EF Lens mount / adjust follow focus, install mattebox & filters as needed DSLR and other 4K Camera operation Inspire 2 Drone set up and take down Operate as visual observer as needed Ronin Gimbal / Easyrig Set Up / follow focus / power up Tripod / Slider / Jib set up as needed LED, Tungsten, HMI, flags and lighting controls grip and lighting General production assistance, photo release acquisition 2nd Unit Camera operator / Director of Photography as needed under direction Wireless and wired audio set up and on-set monitor Be capable of lifting up to 50lbs of equipment, be on feet for long portions of time Bonus - FAA 107 certified pilot if possible with good aerial cinematography experience On-set or on the road data management as needed Direct on screen talent as needed / interview questions Editing / Post Production Requires strong working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Photoshop, Audition and Media Encoder as well as a working knowledge of After Effects, Dynamic Linking and Essential Graphics panel integration between apps. The ideal candidate will be able to take raw footage from a shoot, offload to multiple backups and archives, properly ingest and sort it, develop a storyline based on the rough concept, edit interview, voiceover and other dialogue, place A and B Roll, select or incorporate dynamic music, rough mix the audio, color correct, develop static and animated titles and final audio mix / eq as needed. Working knowledge of advanced motion graphics, visual effects, animated titles, 3D modeling (Cinema 4D Lite) and animation and advanced audio mixing and audio repair is preferred. Finally the candidate will be capable of incorporating edits from the client and from producer, finalizing and mastering the video with upload to dropbox, broadcast or other online outlet. All editing needs to be accomplished with modern style, dynamic storytelling and an emphasis on “feeling” that impacts audiences. They will be willing to expand and learn new ways of editing, incorporate Stage 2’s style of editing, sorting and storytelling and be engaged in expanding their skillset through online training and other training opportunities. Additionally they will need to be flexible, comfortable with incorporating edit requests, often handing off edits midway to John Conn to re-edit / modify and finalize. Typical tasks include the following: Import / Ingest all manner of footage from multiple sources, organize and sort according to Stage 2 Standard Production Process Bin and keep organized project media utilizing dropbox / physical media sources Rough Edit, Rough place music and dialogue with rough mix Place A roll and B roll to develop timing draft Develop strong, audio driven storylines with clean dialogue and snappy, modern edits Selection of final music and mix Advanced sound / picture timing and develop of transitions and rough titles Basic motion graphics - Font selection / text CG animation as needed in AE and Premiere Incorporate supplied Essential Graphics templates and manipulate Advanced motion graphics if available - After Effects, compositing, motion tracking, rotoscoping etc. Develop and manipulate Essential Graphics templates in AE 3D Modeling and animation if possible, rendering and incorporation of animations into 2D footage Basic and advanced color correction, treatments utilizing Lumetri color correction engine (we prefer to keep projects in suite in Adobe) Multiple review / re-edits as required Assist in incorporation of client supplied edit requests, closeout / punchlist Broadcast prep media (online and TV) upload and liaison with broadcast partners Work in tandem with John Conn / other editors as needed or solo with oversight throughout entire project Assist in archive of project files and source media, submit final files to client as needed Other Duties: As we’re a small office there’s always something that’s not on the typical job description that will help us succeed. A few things that might likely come up: Assist John Conn in completing periodic construction projects related to production or other Man tradeshow booths periodically and handle outreach to new prospective contacts Commissioned sales efforts if needed / possible.
