Job Description

The City of Rochester's Civic Music Department is seeking a creative, self-motivated individual for the position of:

Production and Community Outreach Coordinator

Nature of Work

The Production and Community Outreach Coordinator - Civic Music is a professional position responsible for the coordination and implementation of arts programs and events in the community. Job duties include, but are not limited to, serving as the production coordinator/stage manager for programs; the review and implementation of the provisions of contract riders and coordinator of program logistics; and the planning and supporting education and community outreach services including pursuing related revenue and grant generation opportunities. 

Starting salary range is $64,786 to $76,221 with advancement to $91,464.

*Support the presentation of music events/programs.

  • Review, negotiate if indicated, and implement requirements of technical and hospitality contract riders.
  • Advance events/programs and arrange guest artist transportation, accommodations, hospitality/catering, logistical and backline requirements; provide local ground transportation as required.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with production support entities (backline, stagehands, sound, lighting, staging, security, food & beverage, lodging, etc.) and arrange for equipment and services to be provided.
  • Manage professional services event budget.
  • Maintain department inventory of musical/production equipment.
  • Serve as back-up staff for Box Office-related business functions.

*Serve as production coordinator/stage manager for all programs.

  • Provide and/or arrange and supervise load in, set up, production, strike, and load out functions for all rehearsal, concert, and education/community outreach program services.
  • Manage and direct the work of production contractors.
  • Lead production meetings and call shows/stage manage as required.
  • Operate sound and lighting equipment as required.

*Support the Education/Community Outreach & Audience Development Program

  • Plan and implement education and outreach programs and services.
  • Research available grant opportunities; assist with the writing/preparation of grant applications as required.
  • Recruit and develop community/neighborhood partners and outreach service venues.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local artists.

Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.



Education and Experience
A bachelor's degree in technical theatre, arts management or related academic discipline and 1 year of experience as a sound/mixing engineer and/or lighting designer/operator is required.

Licenses and/or Certifications
Valid driver's license

Desirable Qualifications
A master's degree in arts administration or related academic discipline
A minimum of two (2) years' experience in event management, stage management, or concert production
